Vodafone Launches App Store In India, Crosses 10000 Downloads Already !

Vodafone Essar India (earlier known as Hutchison Essar) has just announced that it’s newly launched mobile application store has crossed 10000 downloads.According to Vodafone, the app store service has been operational since Feb 15, 2010.

In an announcement dated 5th March 2010, the company has announced that the app store was initially launched on 15th February 2010, without any promotion or media release.Now after receiving relatively good number of downloads (10k downloads in 22 days), Vodafone has decided to reveal the world about the existence of its app store service in India.

The application store is available to customers through data enabled handsets. Customers can send a message APP to 111 (toll free) and also access the store through the portal Vodafone live! by clicking a link on the home page. Over 15% of applications are available free of charge while the majority of paid applications are priced in the range of Rs. 5 to Rs. 30.

So as you can see in the above excerpt, to access the app store, the users can simply type APP and send a message to 111 (toll free Vodafone no).The store has over 800 applications in the categories: Entertainment, Utility, Finance, Social Networking, Games, etc. consisting of both Indian and international apps as well.You can explore all the free available apps (around 15%) before you can buy paid applications which costs you from Rs 5  to Rs 30.

Indian Mobile Company Launches ‘AAA’ Battery Based Mobile Phone Handset

An Indian mobile handset manufacturing company ‘Olive Telecommunications’ has come up with an innovative idea of including most commonly used ‘AAA’ size batteries in the mobile handsets.

Gurgaon based Olive telecommunications has said while launching the model FrvrOn (= forever on) that this product is will come handy for those residing in rural areas that are having erratic power supply. The specially mobile handset as you can see in the picture, will have a provision for inserting an ‘AAA’ battery besides conventional Lithium-ion battery on the rare side.This is a dual powered phone.

"With our phone, all one needs to do is pack a few extra cells (batteries) if one is travelling in areas where one expects power supply disruptions."

LG launches Corby killer in India:

LG has finally decided to launch its globally popular model LG GD510 in India, six months after it’s global release.It will be known as the LG Cookie Pep in India.

LG GD510 is a 3-inch full touchscreen phone,with 3.15 MP camera (sadly no flash !), Bluetooth 2.0, multimedia player, social networking app for Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace (like Samsung Corby).

Nokia has announced the availability of Nokia 5230 Nuron in USA through T-Mobile 3G.

The phone comes with great features like 3.2” inch touchscreen, pre-loaded Ovi Maps that offers free turn-by-turn navigation.In fact, Nokia Nuron is the first carrier-supported phone to be released with pre-loaded with free Ovi maps.
