YouTube To Stream IPL Matches Live From India

YouTube IPL LogoGoogle India has just struck a nice deal with Indian Premier League (IPL) organizers that would enable to stream the IPL season 3 cricket matches live from it’s video-sharing site YouTube.

Google now holds the exclusive online rights of the IPL matches for two years. All the matches would be broadcasted with a delay of 5 minutes from the original live feed.

The live matches can be watched online from IPL’s YouTube account http://www.youtube.com/ipl.

With around 60 matches to be played, the tournament would be starting from March 12, 2010 and will run till April 25, 2010 in India.

IPL on YouTube March 2010

It’s probably the first time that Google is broadcasting a live sporting event. However IPL fans in USA may just have to stick to other unofficial live streaming sites as they wouldn’t be able to watch this coverage from YouTube.

BTW, the coverage also includes match highlights, interview of the man-of-the match player for that day, all wickets, top sixes of the match, award ceremony, pitch report etc.

New Feature in Orkut: Auto-Magic Groups

Orkut has launched another new feature called “Auto-Magic Groups”.

Auto-Magic Groups automatically suggests friend groups (to filter updates) and suggests labels for them too.Just like friend suggestions that are coming in Orkut off late, you can either accept the suggestions or you may just ignore them.

orkut beta Logo

As you can see in the below screen shot, a link called “edit groups” will appear at the right corner of the ‘Friend updates’ tab.If you click ‘edit groups’ link, it will open all existing groups (that you have created) plus new groups suggested by orkut. You can further customize them from there.

This is what Orkut engineers have to say about this new feature in orkut blog.

This new feature makes it easy to filter your friends’ updates based on relevant groups, right on your orkut homepage, so now you can easily see only the updates from a specific group of people at a time. Try it out by selecting a group from the "groups" drop-down menu on your homepage!

This feature I guess initially available to few selected users and will soon be rolled out for all.

‘Browser Size’ Tool From Google Allows You To Track The Most Appealing Areas Of Your Website

Google has announced the launch of “Browser Size” (@ http://browsersize.googlelabs.com/), the newest of Google labs features that lets you see your website using standard view as it appears to the typical visitor of your website.

It depicts the most visible parts of your website and the part of the website which doesn’t strike to the visitor at the first sight and that requiring a scroll of the page to bring it visible to the visitor.

Just visit Browser Size page, and key in your website URL, to check the visibility of your website/ webpage. It produces lines of different bands of colours for different visibility percentages. For instance if your support website has a button (call for action scenario) “Donate” that falls in the 80% band, it means that 20% of your visitors can’t find it at first sight and they are forced to scroll down to see that button.Browser Size Techrena screen shot

The above is a screen shot of the Browser Size tool test for techrena.net.You can test the results with choosing different opacity. The percentages here refer to the visitors coming to Google, like the “90%” contour means that 90% of people visiting Google have their browser window open to at least this size or larger.

** May Slowdown your system

Warning: Trying some of the above shortcuts created problems in some machines running 64-bit Windows, please do take note of it particularly if your machine is Windows Vista 64-bit version based.

The procedure is same as I had posted earlier for GodMode setup,

Create an empty folder

Use the shortcut name that you want to give it, ex: “Network connections” followed by a period (.) following it should be the corresponding GUID shortcut code.

Networks connection GUID GodMode code

Renaming for Networks connection shortcut

Networks connection shortcut

You can try any of the above GUIDs following the same method.

Fast Flip Comes To Google News Homepage

Google today has announced that it has officially added Google Fast Flip to Google news homepage.Fast Flip, the article-reading service which was launched in September 2009 is still in Google Labs though. You can find Fast Flip at the bottom of the Google News Homepage (U.S).

Fast Flip grabs the screen shots of the newest articles from the popular news papers, magazines, blogs etc. (total news sources at present 90).Google decided to add this feature based upon the positive feedback that it got from the users (??).

Fast Flip in Google News Homepage

We’ve found that the speed and visual nature of the service encourages readers to look at many articles and, for the ones that catch their interest, click through to the story publishers’ websites.

Currently Fast Flip service in Google News is available only in the U.S. English version.

Funny: Microsoft Admits MSNbot is Slow !!

We all know that Bing, the search engine from Microsoft indexes web pages at a slower rate than most of the other search engines (G and Y !! for instance).

But it’s interesting to note that even Microsoft admits the truth about their MSNbot 2.0 which they introduced in November 2009.

Brett Yount, Program Manager @ Bing Webmaster Center replies to the question put forward by an Indian webmaster about only one page of his site being indexed at Bing webmaster community forum.

See his reply in the below screen shot.

Bing MSNbot slow

It is well known in the industry that MSNbot is fairly slow

It’s indeed very much true that Bing indexing is too slow and never indexes a site properly. The good example to quote here would be our Techrena itself.

See these screen shots:

Google shows that it has indexed about 125 pages of Techrena.net

Google Indexing Techrena Bing Indexing: Indexed only 9 pages, out of which 3 are sitemaps !! and this has been static for more than 2 months now.

Bing Techrena Indexing

Perhaps it’s the time Microsoft should really think about increasing the indexing capability of MSNbot (for including in Bing). Are they listening??

Google has added ‘Chat’ feature which allows you to chat with your friends in Gmail, right from the Translator Toolkit.

The chat would be same as that you’d normally see in your Gmail (web-based), with an ability to be ‘invisible’ to your friends(Note that Invisible mode is also available in web based talk gadget based services like Gmail).Just like Wave, this toolkit also is touted for collaborative work but between people whose languages differ.
