Implement Google Adsense For Search In WordPress Blog

Google adsense for search in wordpress self-hosted blog

Adding Google Adsense for search (AFS) for self-hosted WordPress blogs is a bit tricky.In case of a blog hosted on Blogger, it’s enough if you place the codes wherever you want as long it lies within the <body>  section of the HTML source.Coming back to WordPress, even though there won’t be much difficulty in adding the code for displaying the Adsense search box, showing search results is the hard part.This requires you to create a separate page for displaying the search results.

Here we are coming up with an exclusive full tutorial on how to add Google Adsense site search in your WordPress blog.Follow the steps carefully to learn add Adsense site search feature on your own.

What Do We Need ?

– We need a standalone WordPress page to show search results

– We need a separate WordPress page template to embed the search results

– Codes for generating Adsense search box and Adsense search results

Procedure:

Step 1: Creating page template

We are going to generate a WordPress page template in this step.

Open any text editor and copy paste the below code into it and save it as something like googlesitesearch.php.

Code:

<?php
 /*
 Template Name: google site search
*/
?>

<?php get_header(); ?>

<!-- Your Adsense serach result code goes here -->

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
<?php get_footer(); ?>

Note the template name that you have given here (google site search), we make use of this in the next step.You may have to upload it to your WordPress theme folder to use it in the next step.

Step 2: Creating WordPress page

This is much simpler step, you just need to create a new WordPress page (Go to Pages> select “Add New”). Give it some name like Google Site Search.

Important: On the right side pane, select the page template that we have created in the first step (google site search).

WordPress page for site search results

Publish the page and note down the URL of the page (ex: www.techrena.net/google-site-search).

Step 3:

Login to your Adsense account and create a new Adsense for search ad.

In the second page of the AFS wizard, enter the above URL from the above step in the text box under “Open results within my own site” option.

AFS search results page

Finish the AFS settings wizard and now you are ready with two separate codes, one for generating Adsense search form and another for generating search results.

Adsense for search code

Step 4:

Copy the Search Results Code and paste it into the page template file (googlesitesearch.php), save it and re-upload it to your current WordPress theme folder via FTP. Now this is your final page template that loads the search results.
You are done and the sample result page will look like the following:

Adsense Revenue Share Revealed

Google adsense logo

Google has recently disclosed a vital information about the share of the Adsense revenue that Google credits to the publishers for running Google ads on their sites.

According the announcement made in official Adsense blog, Google shares

68% of total revenue for Adsense for content (AFC) ads

51% of total revenue for Adsense for search (AFS) ads

with the publishers.So Google keeps 32% of the total revenue (49% in case of Adsense for search) with it.Google uses this portion of your Adsense revenue for serving ads on your site.

Adsense_login

Why Is This Important ?

This data is very useful for many webmasters to estimate the net worth of their site by calculating the total worth of the site in terms of the total worth of Adsense advertising appeared on their site.

For instance, if your site is generating $200 monthly on average (AFC only), it means that your site could run a total of $294 ($200 / 0.68) worth of Adsense advertising.

You can now make use of this data to fix a price for the ads that you run through direct advertising.In the above case, you know that your blog is worth $294 and accordingly you can fix price as minimum price for any ad that you run through direct sale of the ad slots.So this is how webmasters can use their site’s Adsense net worth as a benchmark for ad slot sales.

Google however has chosen not to disclose the revenue share for other Adsense products like AdSense for mobile applications, AdSense for feeds, and AdSense for games at the moment.

Webmasters across the world are delighted to know exactly how much of the ad revenue share that they are being credited and this is a great initiative from Google to provide better transparency.

How To Report About Third-Party Adsense Ads Distributing Malware

Google Adsense Logo

Earlier this year, Google has made Google-Certified ad networks available to all publisher by default.It is intended to benefit the users who can now attract additional advertisers from third party ad networks to their site through Adsense.This was really an impressive move by Google to benefit its Adsense publishers.

But off late, we have been hearing various complaints about the ads from these third party networks circulating malicious code through Adsense.

For example, quite a number of Adsense publishers with a good anti-virus program installed on their system have figured out that the following virus alerts protruding from their program whenever they open the page containing that particular ad:

http://curves.com/?=345 contains a trojan

Are you one of those publishers experiencing the problem? have no clue about how this is happening ?

Google-certified ad networks who want to place ads in Adsense publisher sites must adhere to all AdWords policies in general.But in this case, the particular ad network which was already certified by Google, started spreading malware later on and as a result some Adsense publishers who were displaying ads from these third party ad networks have been recieving the reports of attacks on their website readers computers through Adsense code.Google however has revoked that particular network’s certification.

We recently learned of a malware-infected creative that came from Aggregate Knowledge, a third-party ad network that was certified by Google at the time. As a result, we revoked that network’s certification, and their ads are no longer eligible to appear on any AdSense publisher sites.

How To Report If You Face Similar Problem?

You need to report through AdWords ads feedback to report about  ill behaviour of a particular ad network from this page.

You need to note the URL of the webpage that this particular ad takes you to when clicked (Warning: Don’t never click on your own ads, instead ask your readers who had faced the problem to pass on the URL to where they were being taken by the ad).Also you need a screenshot of the ad to submit to the AdWords team for analysis.

The report from would look like this one:

Wake Up, Google !

Google Adwords logo

Before you read this, I want to let you all know that I’m a big fan of a Google and I can’t even imagine the life without Google, so much is its impact on the worldwide netizens.As an avid internet user, Google works great for me and it saves my time, warns against visiting sites that are spreading malware, offering me a free mail and what not, I enjoy every bit of their services.

Now as a webmaster/blogger too, I reiterate the same what I have said in the above paragraph.Majority of the websites or blogs on the internet are still surviving on Google’s SE traffic.

Unfortunately people there are some people who are trying to exploit the Google’s services which have got a tremendous global internet reach among the internet users.The most exploited services being Adsense, Adwords.I’m afraid Google is just relaxing a bit allowing off late.Google is just becoming the toy in the hands of the bad people.Adsense arbitrage, MFA sites all these are just small examples of the dreadful exploitation.

I just observed two things today while browsing (screenshots added) today and here is why I think it’s for Google to wake up and tighten the screws.

#1. Link selling or link buying is completely against the Google Webmaster guidelines but still valid according to Google Adwords/Adsense, funny? Why should Google be promoting the link selling websites through Adwords and Adsense.Look at the following screenshot  that I’ve taken from a leading technology blog.Obviously the author of the blog has no choice to block them until he really sees such ads himself.

Backlink selling ads in Adsense

#2. Try Googling for “adsense” (in Google.co.in).Just notice what you see in the sponsored links on the right hand side of the page.

Buy an adsense account ad

Adsesnse account for Rs.500/- ($10)? WTF? I went and checked out to find out what that site is all about.Well, it is violating every rule in the Google’s book.Even one of my friends blogged about this adsenseindia.tk scam last week, consider someone who just wants to know about Adsense lands up on this page through the sponsored links and pays them for an Adsense account? He gets cheated right? It’s a complete scam and even if you get an account from there, it would be banned sooner or later.

I know that anyone can create a Adwords or Adsense account and setup ads like these.But keeping such advertisers in the network will definitely going to haunt Google in the long run.Go clean the mess, Google.

Google-Certified Ad Networks Made Available For All Publishers

adsense-logo

As a website publisher we always want more number of advertisers to compete for a slot in our website, the higher the competition the more beneficiary it would be for us.What if advertisers from different ad networks compete for a ad slot in your site ? It would be great, isn’t it ? Adsense , from now on will provide this platform.

Google Adsense has just announced the expansion of Google-certified third-party ad networks to all the Adsense publishers (which was initially available to the publishers in North America and Europe.
