[Download] Ubuntu One For Windows

If you don’t know yet, Ubuntu One is a cloud storage application much like the popular Dropbox, offering a 2GB (basic version) of online storage for you to backup and sync your files, contacts, notes, bookmarks etc. To get the free 2GB storage, you need to sign up for Ubuntu One. You can always add more storage by paying additional $2.99 per month for 20GB storage (20-Pack of storage). Ubuntu is also offering Ubuntu One Mobile one, cloud music streaming service for iPhone and Android mobile devices at $3.99 per month.

If you are on Windows, you may need to request a Ubuntu One Windows Beta invite to be able download the installer file, which is around 12 MB in size. Once installed, use your Ubuntu One account to sign into the application.

Even though, the first release of the beta version of the Ubuntu One doesn’t offer syncing folders outside the main Ubuntu One folder, the feature is soon expected to be arrived in the later release of the software.

What’s the point of any service where you don’t have control over the data you add through it? This is the first and foremost point that every user considers before using any service and the service provider must be up to it to provide users with full control over their data. Being the most widely used social networking website on the internet, Facebook is no exception. Facebook has recently added a provision through which the users can download their entire personal information that you have posted on Facebook including messages, Wall posts, photos, status updates and profile information etc. You can download all this data with a single click.

Follow these steps to download all your information on Facebook:

1. Login to Facebook and click “Account Settings” under Account.

2. Locate “Download Your Information” in the Settings tab and click “learn more” link present right next to it.

3. In the next page, you will receive a brief message about what the tool exactly going to do along with a brief warning message. Click on the green “Download” button to proceed to the next step.

4. A pop-up window (“Request My Download”) appears now. The window tells you to wait till Facebook gathers all your photos, wall posts, messages and other information. Click on the Download button again to proceed.

5. It may take a little while for Facebook to gather all your information and you will eventually receive a mail containing a download link for the zip file containing your Facebook account information.

You need to verify your identity by entering your account password before you can download the zipped file.

In the next page you should see a download button along with showing information about the size of the file you are about to download. Download the .zip file and unzip to see the contents of it. You should see sub-folders like photos, html along with index.html and readme files.

6. You are done with downloading your information from Facebook!

Microsoft has released Windows 7 Service Pack 1 blocker tool kit that allows you to block all Windows 7 Service Pack 1 updates without disabling the Windows Updates. If your organization wants to wait till the official RTM release of Windows 7 which is expected around the first quarter of 2011, and don’t want to install Service Pack updates via Windows Updates.

Apple Mac OS X 10.6.5 is now available for download. The users can download the fifth maintenance update for Snow Leopard using native Software Update feature available from the Apple menu. The update fixes a wider number of issues reported since the launch of Mac OS X 10.6.4 in June 2010.

The updates contains as many as 25 major general fixes and improvements (plus tons of minor fixes) for several issues found in the earlier version of Mac OS X. Here are the some of the fixes and improvements issued in the Mac OS X v10.6.5 update:

– Improve reliability with Microsoft Exchange servers
– Address stability and performance of graphics applications and games
– Resolve a delay between print jobs
– Address a printing issue for some HP printers connected to an AirPort Extreme
– Address an issue where dragging an item from a stack causes the Dock to not automatically hide
– Resolve an issue with Wikipedia information not displaying correctly in Dictionary
– Improved performance of MainStage on certain Mac systems
– Resolves a VoiceOver issue when browsing some web sites with Safari 5
– Improved reliability of Ethernet connections.

WordPress has just released an official app for the users of Nokia Symbian and Maemo based mobile phones. The latest free WordPress app for Nokia devices comes after the successful launch of such apps for iPhone,Android and BlackBerry devices.

With this app installed, you can manage (add new posts or pages, edit existing content, manage content etc.) your WordPress blogs directly from your mobile phone. The app will also have the inbuilt statistical analysis which allows you see all the important data like visits, referrers and search terms accounted for brining the visitors to your WordPress blog.

Along with the updates KB2284742 and KB2388210, Microsoft has also released another update for Windows 7 based systems, KB2028551. The update resolves issues with printing from XML Paper Specifications (XPS) based applications to print drivers that are based on Graphical Device Interface (GDI).

The update resolves issues that you may encounter while printing an XPS that contains visual brushes, where certain elements in the document gets clipped when printing on a GDI-based printer device. The update contains improvements for the XPS to GDI converter, which finally improves the performance of the printing when you print from XPS-based applications to GDI-based drivers. Microsoft has also mentioned that installing this update is also essential to support some of the features included in Internet Explorer 8 platform preview build.
